The View from Blackfriars Bridge to Westminster Bridge
Oil on Canvas
188cm x 241cm
1990 – Ongoing
Image Taken in 2018
In 1990, I began my painting ‘The View from Blackfriars Bridge to Westminster Bridge’ which I continue to work on. The painting was originally intended to be the culmination of a series of canvases based on walking around the neighbourhood where I lived in Islington — See the Cityscapes Gallery — however, as my interests in observational drawing and the process of painting deepened, the focus of the work broadened to explore the relationship between space, time, and movement within a single image. A number of preparatory drawings for this piece can be found in the Drawings Gallery and The Giclee Prints Gallery of the site.
